Parents & Caregivers,
When a baby/child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, it is important to ensure that they have access to the therapies that will assist with their independence and mobility.
It is, however, just as important to assist children with all the big feelings that emerge when they are trying (and trying) new developmental skills. Children (and adults) need a space where these feelings can be explored and acknowledged. Creating an emotional safety net for a child to land in when they need to be seen and heard.
School children (6-12 years) are becoming more aware of their bodies, the tasks, or skills they can do well, and the skills that they struggle with. They start to compare themselves to their school friends and they notice the things that they can and cannot do as easily as their peers. They will at times, need assistance to navigate all their feelings as they notice these differences, and begin to develop self-concept and worth.
To assist parents & caregivers I (Thea Keane, a family counsellor with lived experience of cerebral palsy, right side hemiplegia) will be facilitating a one-hour webinar to discuss effective ways to emotionally assist school aged (6-12 years) children with cerebral palsy. Giving them the foundation skills of emotional regulation that they can call upon as they grow and develop.
On Friday 30th June 2023 @12.30pm, you can join me live via Zoom for this event. This webinar will be recorded, so if you can't attend live that is fine - I'll email you a recording to watch at a time that suits you.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions in the last 15 minutes of the webinar.
I look forward to assisting you in your journey as a parent or caregiver.
